Ingredients

For the Pork

  • 1.5kg pork shoulder (boneless, skin removed)
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ยฝ tsp black pepper
  • 250ml apple juice or stock

For the Sauce

  • 200ml BBQ sauce (smoky style works best)
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp honey (optional, for sweetness)
  • 1 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)

For the Sandwich

  • 6โ€“8 brioche or soft bread rolls
  • Coleslaw (homemade or store-bought)
  • Extra BBQ sauce
  • Pickles (optional)

Season the Pork

    Mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.

    Rub all over the pork shoulder.

Slow Cook

    Place pork in a slow cooker or heavy casserole dish.

    Add apple juice (or stock) around the meat.

    Cook on low for 6โ€“8 hours (or high for 4โ€“5 hours) until the pork falls apart easily with a fork.

Shred the Pork

    Drain most of the cooking liquid, leaving just a little for moisture.

Add the Sauce
