Thin strips of crispy fried beef tossed in a sticky, sweet, and spicy chilli sauce. A Chinese takeaway classic that delivers crunch, heat, and bold flavour.



 

Ingredients

For the Crispy Beef

  • 400g beef steak (sirloin or rump), cut into thin strips
  • 4 tbsp cornflour
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Sauce

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 red chillies, finely sliced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar or honey
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

To Serve

  • Spring onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds (optional)

Prepare the Beef

    Toss the beef strips in the cornflour until evenly coated.

Fry the Beef

    Heat a deep pan or wok with enough oil to shallow-fry over high heat.

    Fry the beef in batches for 2โ€“3 minutes until golden and very crispy.

  3. Step 5

    Remove and drain on kitchen paper.

Make the Sauce

    Heat the vegetable oil in a clean wok over medium heat.

    Add the garlic, ginger, and chillies and stir-fry briefly until fragrant.

Build the Glaze
